Nut-Free Journey

I know there are many other blogs out there dedicated to kids with peanut or tree nut allergies, but I felt it was time to document my family’s journey of living nut-free because it bothers me that many people think having a nut allergy is like being lactose intolerant. The reality of this allergy is that a person could die if they are exposed to a peanut or tree nut. A person doesn’t just get a stomachache and diarrhea and sleep it off. The public’s perception of this allergy needs to change and I would like to change the negative stigma that sometimes goes along with nut allergies, or any food allergy for that matter.

I’m not one of those parents that expects the world to change for my child’s nut allergies. I don’t expect the peanut farmers to burn their crops or for my child’s friends to give up their peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I just want people to understand my fears and concerns. I want them to know that parents of children with nut allergies (or any food allergy) are not neurotic or imagining the worst.

This blog won’t be doom and gloom about nut allergies. I want to inform all people about nut allergies and what they should be aware of regarding all aspects of nut allergies. I hope you stick around follow our journey.
